FAQ

Why Choose a MagnetTM Hospital?

A MagnetTM hospital demonstrates a strong commitment to nursing practice in a setting which enables nurses and other clinicians to provide their best care. Research shows that these hospitals consistently outperform non-Magnet organizations and deliver better patient outcomes.

Does the hospital allow smoking?

Mercy Medical Center has a campus-wide tobacco-free policy that requires all employees, patients, physicians, volunteers, contractors, and visitors to refrain from the use of tobacco products in our buildings, vehicles, walkways, and parking lots. This policy covers all grounds and facilities, owned or leased, and hospital and personal vehicles parked on hospital property. This is in compliance with the Iowa Smokefree Air Act.

Does the hospital have wireless internet access?

Anyone with a laptop, PDA, or hand-held device equipped with a WiFi compliant 802.11b/g wireless ethernet card and a standard web browser can access the Internet from most areas of the Mercy campus.

The public wireless network inside the hospital does not allow access to the hospital's secure electronic medical record or any system directly related to patient care.

Do you have Mass at the hospital?

The Sacred Heart Chapel is located on the first floor. It is open 24 hours a day for prayer and quiet reflection. Mass is celebrated on Sunday at 7:45 a.m. and Monday-Friday at 4:30 p.m. Mass is also televised on Channel 6 on our closed circuit TV. No Mass on holidays except Christmas and New Year's Day.

Where do I park?

All parking at Mercy Medical Center is free. Visitors are welcome to take advantage of any of our parking lots or the parking ramp. Please avoid parking in fire lanes, reserved or handicapped spots if you do not have a visible permit. Security officers regularly patrol the parking lots and are available to provide escort service.
