Mercy-Dyersville: Cardiac Rehabilitation
Many heart events, such as elective cardiac catheterization with stent placement, myocardial infarctions, and open-heart surgeries (bypass and valve replacement), require follow-up care through Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Cardiac Rehab staff at Mercy-Dyersville work with patients to regain their health and vitality after a heart event through a personalized exercise program and education on nutrition, medications, and improved lifestyle. Patients no longer have to travel to other facilities for this important level of care in their recovery, thanks to the Phase II services offered at Mercy-Dyersville.
Through Phase II, patients gradually and safely increase their level of activity through an exercise program developed by the cardiac team. In addition, education sessions allow the patient to:
- Begin the rebuilding process slowly
- Understand the heart disease process
- Learn to recognize risk factors
- Modify diet
- Learn how to shop for healthful, low-fat, low-sodium foods
- Meet food requirements when dining in a restaurant
- Reduce stress
- Learn how their medication works
Family members are invited to the education sessions so they can better understand the recovery process and help patients meet their goals.
Most insurance companies will pay for a portion or all of the cost of this program.
