Caring for the Community

The role of the Mercy nurse extends beyond the boundaries of hospital nursing practice. Mercy nurses are involved in a wide variety of community health, wellness and charitable giving activities:

• "Caring for our Community" annual nursing-sponsored giving campaign to benefit a charitable organization within the community each year
• Organizational and fund raising support for nonprofit organizations such as American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes and Alzheimers Association.
• Presentations to civic organizations
• Innovative community health education and screenings
• Personal birth consulting services for couples preparing for childbirth
• Community support groups for people with brain injuries, breast cancer, breastfeeding, heart failure disease, and more
• Innovative, intensive, and evidence-based case management services for congestive heart failure (CHF) and diabetes patients
• Collaborate with Hospice and other care providers to support end of life care needs
• Support for rural health safety
• Leadership for regional faith community nursing
