When you're hurting, any time spent waiting is too long. That's why at Mercy's ER there is no waiting. Immediately, you'll be seen by a caregiver, and shortly after that, treated by a physician. Our NO WAIT policy means that upon your arrival, you're on your way to healing - thanks to:

- Level II Trauma Center and Pediatric Emergency Department designated by the State of Illinois.
- One of only 6 hospitals in the state of Iowa and the only one in the Dubuque area to have at least one board certified ER physician available 24 hours a day.
- The first Emergency Department in the state of Iowa to offer specialized emergency care for seniors.
- Nursing staff holds credentials in advanced training as Certified Trauma Nurse Specialists, Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Trauma Nurse Care Curriculum.
- Responds to more than 2,000 cardiac cases annually.
- Supports 50 ambulance service providers with medical direction and continuing education within the Tri-state region.
- Helicopter services for in- and out-bound patients of Mercy Medical Center.

Permission to Treat Your Child at Mercy
Nothing should stand in the way of emergency care for your child. Should your son or daughter require emergent care in your absence, it is important that we have his/her most current medical history, as well as your consent for treatment. Click below to access a consent form.
