PERSONAL HEALTH INFORMATION
Association of health information management professionals
launches http://www.myphr.com/
CHICAGO, October 20-The American Health Information
Management Association (AHIMA) announces the debut of
its new Web based resource to help individuals understand
and manage their personal health information. The Web
site, http://www.myphr.com,
will provide consumers with:
- A listing of common information and reports contained
in a health record
- Information on how a health record is used to ensure
quality healthcare
- Explanation of their health information rights
- Information on how to maintain, access, amend, transfer,
or obtain copies of their health record
- Downloadable personal health record forms
- Frequently asked questions
- Links to helpful consumer sites
"The implementation of the Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy rule earlier
this year has led to increased awareness among consumers
about what health information is being collected about
them. Along with this awareness is a lot of confusion
and misinformation," stated Linda Kloss, RHIA,
CAE, executive vice president and CEO of AHIMA. "We
developed MyPHR.com to fill a need for an objective,
consumer-friendly resource that can empower individuals
with the information and tools they need to managed
their personal health information, understand their
new privacy rights, and answer common questions about
the many issues that surround it."
AHIMA is the national association of health information
management (HIM) professionals. AHIMA's 46,000 members
are dedicated to the effective management of personal
health information needed to deliver quality healthcare
to the public. Founded in 1928 to improve the quality
of medical records, AHIMA is committed to advancing
the HIM profession in an increasingly electronic and
global environment through leadership in advocacy, education,
certification, and lifelong learning.
