Many heart events, such as elective cardiac catheterization with stent placement, myocardial infarctions and open-heart surgeries (bypass and valve replacement) require follow-up care through cardiac rehabilitation.
We work with patients to regain their health and vitality after a heart event through a personalized exercise program and education on nutrition, medications and improved lifestyle. Patients no longer have to travel to other facilities for this important level of care in their recovery, thanks to the Phase II services offered right here at MercyOne Dyersville.
Through Phase II, patients gradually and safely increase their level of activity through an exercise program developed by the cardiac team. In addition, education sessions allow the patient to:
Family members are invited to the education sessions so they can better understand the recovery process and help patients meet their goals.
Most insurance companies will pay for a portion or all of the cost of this program.

Imaging tests help in the diagnosis and treatment of your symptoms or injury, and your physician may order an imaging test as part of your care. MercyOne Dyersville offers general radiology, mammography and ultrasound. If your physician feels another test is necessary, we will refer you to MercyOne Dubuque where they also offer MRI, CT scan (CAT scan), PET-CT and nuclear medicine.
Caring, board-certified radiology technologists are on hand 24 hours daily to get high-quality films and keep you as comfortable as possible during your exam. All exams are interpreted by our board-certified radiologists. Your physician who ordered the test will receive the radiologist's report and will share the results with you.
Mammography
Digital mammography is now available at MercyOne Dyersville, and patients no longer need to travel out of town for this service. Digital mammography uses computer technology instead of film and allows the physician to electronically enhance and magnify the images, and to adjust the contrast to better examine any suspicious areas. From the patient's perspective, the procedure for a digital mammogram is the same as for a conventional film mammogram. However, since the images are available almost immediately and no film development time is necessary, the examination time for the patient is less. Digital mammography is the most effective tool for early detection of breast cancer.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound, also called sonogram or sonography, is an examination that uses high frequency sound waves to produce images of organs and vessels within the body. Ultrasound differs from most other imaging modalities in that it does not use any type of radiation or radioactive material.
