Mercy’s ER is listed by the American Academy of
Emergency Medicine as one of only 6 hospitals in the
state of Iowa and the only one in the Dubuque area to
have at least one board certified ER physician available
24 hours a day. (See www.911emergency.org
for more information.)
To qualify, a doctor must not only pass rigorous written
and oral exams, but also complete a residency program
in emergency medicine. Board certification means that
our physicians know how to keep people alive in that
first critical hour, to figure out what is wrong, get
to the bottom of the problem, and not just pass the
patient on to another doctor.
As the leading trauma center in the Tri-State area,
Mercy’s Emergency
Department along with all seven board certified ER doctors, has long been
recognized for its excellence of care in times of serious injury as well
as non-urgent conditions.
