Before Leaving Home
- Take your medications as instructed by your doctor with a small sip of water.
- Brush your teeth. Swishing with water is ok.
- Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing and no make-up or nail polish.
- Leave all valuables, jewelry and money at home. Jewelry (including wedding rings, body piercing) will be removed prior to surgery.
Arriving at Mercy
- Arrive at the hospital 2 hours before your procedure time or as instructed by your doctor.
- Go to the Patient Entrance located on the north side of Mercy.
- Admitting will be to your right as you enter. - View Maps & Directions for more details.
- Check in at the Admitting Department on the first floor.
Entering the Ambulatory Unit:
- Your family will be asked to wait in the Surgical Waiting Room (located next to the Ambulatory Unit) while you are prepared for your procedure.
- Your nurse will explain the preparation process, complete procedures, gather information, ask you to sign consent forms and have you change into a surgical gown.
- Once you are prepared for your procedure, visitors will be welcomed back to the Ambulatory Unit.

Visitor Information
Family and friends will stay in the Surgical Waiting Room while you are being prepared for your procedure.
- Children under the age of 14 may not visit the Ambulatory Unit.
- Only 2 visitors at a time are allowed in the Ambulatory Unit.
The Surgical Waiting Room is generally staffed by Mercy Volunteers.
- Register with the volunteer and let him/her know if you must leave. Beepers are available and only work within the hospital.
- Cell phones and laptops may be used in the waiting area, but not in the Ambulatory Unit. Wireless service is available.
- During the actual procedure, visitors will be asked to wait in the Cardiology Waiting Area on second floor. The Cardiologist will come out to talk with the visitors at the end of the procedure.
For Your Convenience:
- Ambulatory Care, Surgery, and the Surgical Waiting Room are on the ground floor. Restrooms, phones and beverage and snack vending machines are on the ground floor near the waiting area.
- The Cardiology Lab and Cardiology Waiting Area are on second floor.
- The Cafeteria, Gift Shop, Pharmacy, and Chapel are on the first floor.
- The Cardiac Medical Unit and ICU are located on third floor.
